By 2026, the economics had flipped.
Now you can spin up thousands of disposable VPS nodes, each running its own detached systems and managed by AI agents, for less than I paid for that notebook.
Think about the stack:
USD 10–12 per year gets you a VPS node capable of running hundreds of lightweight detached systems, mostly PHP microservices.
Five different agent types can handle build, monitoring, maintenance, testing, and day-to-day operations.
Add roughly USD 20–30 per month for LLM usage, and the whole thing runs 24/7 with no one in the loop.
If you already own a GPU box-which a lot of gamers do-the numbers get even better.
Run vLLM with a capable lower-end local LLM, tunnel your VPS nodes to it securely, and your marginal inference cost becomes electricity plus hardware depreciation.
Cheap VPS.
Local inference.
Autonomous agents.
Hundreds of detached systems.
Continuous operation.
This is no longer just a chatbot exercise.
It is a distributed, autonomous digital workforce built on commodity infrastructure at very low cost.
And it is only a matter of time before governments, corporations, criminal networks, and militaries start weaponizing this architecture.
The stack keeps getting cheaper.
The engineering question is no longer whether it can be built.
The question is who deploys it first, and to what end.
