Deep Tech is horizontal. SaaS is vertical. And from where I sit - building, integrating and keeping these systems running in production - we're entering a phase where that distinction decides how technology gets valued.
Most people still evaluate Deep Tech through the hype lens. As an engineer, I look at the part nobody puts on a slide: the underlying architecture, the orchestration layer, the pipelines that can carry thousands of applications across industries without being rebuilt for each one.
In our recent pitch we put two products forward, both recognised at TRL9 by MOSTI. We positioned our Deep Tech as commercial and the SaaS layer as non-commercial. That was deliberate - the reusable engine is the asset, the app sitting on top is just the output.
With Agentic AI and a proper workflow foundation underneath it, standing up SaaS is getting cheaper and faster, and it's no longer gated behind a specialist team. Scaffolding, integrations, deployment plumbing - work that used to need a full dev squad is now a handful of people with the right platform and a working feedback loop.
So here's the uncomfortable question. Are we still pricing SaaS on how difficult it was to build, when that difficulty is evaporating in front of us?
I'm not saying SaaS dies. I deploy it, I maintain it, I watch it in production. But the moat gets thin fast when the barrier was software creation itself - and software creation is the first thing Agentic AI strips out.
Maybe the bigger opportunity isn't owning one SaaS product, but owning the Deep Tech architecture that lets thousands of them run, get monitored, and stay maintainable.
SaaS can be replicated. Deep Tech is what makes replication possible.
That's how I see it, from the build side.

我喜欢这段说明这部分,因为它讲得比较务实。
This is where that's how I see finally makes sense.
Whoever wrote this actually did the work on we're entering a phase.
