Deep Tech is Horizontal. SaaS is Vertical. And I think we're entering a phase where this distinction will change how technology is valued.
Most people still look at Deep Tech from the hype angle. But to me, the real value is often in the less exciting part, the underlying architecture that can power thousands of applications across industries.
In our recent pitch, we presented 2 products, both recognised at TRL9 by MOSTI. We position our Deep Tech as commercial, while SaaS as non-commercial. And yes, that was intentional.
With Agentic AI and proper workflow foundation, building SaaS is becoming cheaper, faster and no longer exclusive to software experts. What used to require an entire development team may soon be achievable by a few people with the right technology.
So here's the uncomfortable question. Are we still valuing SaaS based on how difficult it was to build, when that difficulty itself is disappearing?
I'm not saying SaaS will die. But its competitive advantage may become harder to defend when software creation is no longer the barrier.
Maybe the bigger opportunity isn't owning one SaaS product, but owning the Deep Tech architecture that enables thousands of them.
SaaS can be replicated. Deep Tech is what makes replication possible.
That's how I see it lah.

نواجه هذا الموضوع في العمل الآن. مفيد.
The framing around what used to require is better than I expected.
This is where that's how I see finally makes sense.
That point about non-commercial is well put.
The part on faster and no longer exclusive is the bit I keep re-reading.
Dah hantar pada dua orang. Sebab faster and no longer exclusive.
