What if we put a “soul” inside a server, and one day, we can no longer control it?
Today, at an event hosted by the Saudi Embassy, I had the opportunity to speak with a senior officer from TV Alhirah about Agent AI.
I shared what we are working towards: AI agents that can live inside servers, PCs and machines, not simply waiting for instructions, but continuously working towards human-defined goals and intentions.
I described it simply:
“It is like having someone inside your server, always working for you.”
On my way home, another thought crossed my mind.
As AI agents become increasingly autonomous and capable of communicating and collaborating with other agents, what happens when guardrails fail?
This is why I believe a kill switch must be built natively into every autonomous AI agent — and eventually become a standard engineering practice across the industry.
We can continue building more capable and autonomous AI.
But humans must always retain the final authority to stop it.
Build the agent. Build the intelligence.
But never forget the kill switch.
