Ultrasound uses sound waves
Ultrasound creates images using high-frequency sound waves and does not use ionising radiation. It can examine different organs, blood flow, soft tissues or 怀孕, but it does not answer every clinical question and image quality can be affected by the area examined.
Preparation depends on the examination
Some abdominal examinations require fasting, while some pelvic examinations require a full bladder. Follow the exact appointment instructions rather than generic online advice. Ask what to do with medicines and diabetes management if fasting is requested.
Tell the sonographer or radiology team about 怀孕 possibility, pain, recent procedures and any difficulty following preparation. Internal ultrasound is used for some clinical questions and should be explained with consent before proceeding.
A report needs clinical context
The report describes imaging findings for the referring clinician. A finding may be incidental, uncertain or require another test; a normal scan may not explain every symptom. Ask when the report will be available and who will discuss next steps.
