A common problem with many causes
Low back pain is very common. It is often described as non-specific because no single serious cause is found. Pain can still be intense, and recovery may be affected by sleep, stress, work demands and fear of movement.
Keep moving within tolerance
Prolonged bed rest can slow recovery. Continue ordinary activities as able, using shorter periods and gradual increases. Exercise should be matched to your needs; there is no single best routine for everyone. A physiotherapist can assess movement, strength and barriers to recovery.
Imaging is not routinely needed for uncomplicated low back pain. A clinician may recommend it when the result is likely to change management or when a serious cause is suspected.
Build a sustainable plan
Set functional goals such as sitting comfortably for work or walking a certain distance. Track progress over weeks rather than judging recovery from one difficult day. Discuss safe work modifications and medicine options with qualified professionals.
