胆结石 do not always cause symptoms

胆结石 are often found incidentally and may not need treatment when they cause no symptoms. When a stone blocks bile flow, pain can occur in the upper abdomen, sometimes with nausea or pain toward the back or shoulder. Other conditions can cause similar pain, so self-diagnosis is unsafe.

Assessment guides treatment

A clinician may use the symptom pattern, examination, blood tests and ultrasound. 治疗 depends on whether stones are causing repeated pain, gallbladder inflammation, jaundice, pancreatitis or another complication. Surgery may be discussed, but individual benefits, risks and alternatives require consultation.

While waiting for review, note food associations and follow any individual dietary advice. Avoid extreme diets or unverified remedies intended to flush stones.

Recognise complications

Persistent severe pain, fever, jaundice or repeated vomiting can indicate inflammation or blockage and needs urgent assessment. Dark urine, pale stools or confusion should also be reported promptly.
