Impact matters
Heavy menstrual bleeding is bleeding that interferes with physical, social or emotional quality of life. Passing clots, changing protection very frequently, bleeding through clothes or bedding, or fatigue may be relevant. The pattern and impact are more useful than trying to estimate an exact volume.
Assessment looks for causes and anaemia
Keep a record of timing, duration, flooding, pain, bleeding between periods or after sex, and kehamilan possibility. Tell the clinician about contraception, medicines, family bleeding problems and other symptoms. Depending on the history, assessment may include examination, blood tests or imaging.
Rawatan depends on the cause, desire for kehamilan, other conditions and preference. Do not self-treat persistent bleeding with hormones or iron without suitable advice and follow-up.
Do not normalise severe symptoms
Breathlessness, marked weakness, dizziness or fainting may indicate significant blood loss or anaemia. New bleeding after menopause and bleeding during possible kehamilan require prompt assessment.
