Formulas

Vertical cylinder: V = π·(D/2)²·H

Horizontal cylinder (full): V = π·(D/2)²·L

Rectangular: V = L·W·H

Variables

  • D — diameter (m)
  • H — height (m)
  • L — length (m)
  • W — width (m)

Example

Vertical tank, D = 4.2 m, H = 5.5 m: V = π·(2.1)²·5.5 = 76.2 m³ ≈ 76,200 L.

Application

Useful for preliminary tank sizing, storage capacity and dosing/chemical estimates.

Limitations

Horizontal-cylinder result assumes a full tank. Partial-fill and dished-end volumes require more detailed calculation. Site and engineering validation is required.
