Estimate the filter loading (filtration) rate for a filter bed.

Formula

Loading = Q / A where Q = flow (m³/h) and A = filter area (m²).

Variables

Q — flow rate (m³/h)
A — filter surface area (m²)

Example

50 m³/h over 10 m²: loading = 5 m/h.

Application

Useful for preliminary filter sizing in water treatment.

Limitations

This is a nominal loading rate. Media type, backwash, water quality and design standards must be considered.
